Prolific Character Actor James Rebhorn Dies at 65

James Rebhorn, a prolific character actor who appeared in over 100 roles on stage and on the big and small screen, died this past Friday at the age of 65. Rebhorn may best be remembered most for his role as the concerned father of Claire Danes’ character in the Showtime drama “Homeland.”

Rebhorn was also memorable in many a “Law & Order” episode, for playing Dickie Greenleaf’s father in the chilling “The Talented Mr. Ripley,” for his recurring role in “White Collar” as Special Agent Reese Hughes and for appearances in “Scent of a Woman,” “My Cousin Vinny” and more.

According to his agent, Dianne Busch, “He died from melanoma, which had been diagnosed in 1992. He fought it all this time. He died Friday afternoon at his home in
New Jersey, where he had been receiving hospice care for a week and a
half.” Even while battling cancer, Rebhorn enjoyed a healthy career that spanned over five decades.

We can forgive him for sending Jerry, Elaine, George and Kramer to jail on the “Seinfeld” finale in 1998. His is a face we’ll miss and his absence won’t go unnoticed.
