Richard Jenkins and Jason Momoa Highlight the 16th Annual Sarasota Film Festival Guest List

Based in Sarasota, Florida, the festival taking place April 4-13, 2014, announced that Richard Jenkins, star of John Slattery’s new film “God’s Pocket” will be at the festival’s screening of the film at The Sarasota Opera House. He will also take part in a conversation with David Edelstein, of New York Magazine, on Friday April 11 at 3 pm at The Florida Studio Theatre’s Bowne Lab. Jenkins has numerous film and television credits to his name, ranging from his Academy Award-nominated performance in “The Visitor,” to “Six Feet Under,” to lighter fare like “Step Brothers.” 

This year’s Tribute Luncheon will be held in honor of Sister Rosemary Nyirumbe, the subject of the film “Sewing Hope.” For the last 30 years, Sister Rosemary of the Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus based in Juba, South Sudan, has worked to defy the rule of Joseph Kony and the Lord’s Resistance Army by enrolling more than 2,000 girls who have been affected by the LRA. The festival will screen “Sewing Hope,” and Sister Rosemary, who will be in attendance, will be presented with the Impact Award by the Gulf Coast Chapter of UN Women.

Among others, Jason Momoa, star of “Game of Thrones” and “The Red Road,” will appear at the World Premiere screening of “Road to Paloma,” in which he wrote, directed, stars. The Atlanta, Georgia, band Radio Birds, who made music for the film’s soundtrack, will also attend the screening and perform live at the festival’s 1137 Party on Saturday, April 12th at Louies Modern. Charlie McDowell, director of SDD’s Closing NIght Film “The One I Love,” will receive the festival’s Breakthrough Award for his directorial debut. The award will be presented prior to the festival’s screening of the film.
