Want to Slap Tim League in the Face? Here’s Your Chance to Get Some ‘Cheap Thrills’

Want to Slap Tim League in the Face? Here's Your Chance to Get Some 'Cheap Thrills'

Alamo Drafthouse Cinema exhibitor and Drafthouse distributor Tim League has always been willing to go the extra mile to fight texting or grab attention for his movies. This time, to promote new smart horror flick “Cheap Thrills” (here’s our rave review and interview with the director), League promises an unusual money-back guarantee. See his full offer below.

Hello Los Angeles friends,

We need your help!

This Friday, Drafthouse Films is releasing a fabulous movie that screened at Fantastic Fest last fall: CHEAP THRILLS.  The film was co-produced by long-time friend of the festival Travis Stevens, directed by another Fantastic Fest pal Evan Katz and stars David Koechner (Anchorman), Pat Healy (The Innkeepers), Sara Paxton (The Innkeepers) and Ethan Embry (Empire Records).

The film opens up at Cinefamily in Los Angeles on Friday and plays all week.

I first saw this film first at SXSW and was blown away by it, so much so that we acquired it for Drafthouse Films a few days later.  Incredible performances from all the actors, high tension, and a tight script that keeps giddily bouncing from raucous comedy to harsh violence to poigniant seriousness make CHEAP THRILLS one of those rare “total package” films for me. And I’m not alone.  Up until yesterday CHEAP THRILLS boasted a 100% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes (boo Steve MacFarlane and his arguably mixed-positive review on Slant).

All other reviews have been amazing, here’s a taste:

“Simple, effective and consistently provocative, Cheap Thrills is a masterful debut from a director to watch… Has to be seen to be believed.”  Chris Tilly, IGN

“Cheap Thrills’ Is A Masterful And Nuanced Bit Of Horror Satire” Evan Dickson, Bloody Disgusting

“Original, satirical, violent, funny….Consider yourself warned. Genre flicks this unique, daring, and perversely thoughtful don’t come around very often.” Matt Barone, Complex Magazine

“a black comic masterpiece… a brilliant, brutal, furious piece of filmmaking…I feel downright evangelical about it”  Drew McWeeny, HitFix

CHEAP THRILLS is a big bet for Drafthouse Films and we need your help to make it a success.

Please support the film by buying a ticket in the cinema on opening weekend.  Also use your own personal megaphone to spread the word to your friends.  Use the hashtag #cheapthrills and direct ’em to cheapthrillsmovie.com on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Cheap Thrills is one of those rare gems – an amazing film made by some of the nicest folks I know.  My utopia is a world where great people like Fantastic Fest vets Evan Katz, Pat Healy and Travis Stevens are successful and continue to make awesome movies for us to enjoy.  Let’s make it happen!

MONEY BACK (PLUS) OFFER

If you don’t like this movie after this recommendation, here is my money-back offer to you. The next time you see me, I will refund your purchase out of my own pocket, buy you a beer and let you slap me as hard as you want in the face.

There is no risk!  Go see Cheap Thrills this weekend and tell your friends!
