WATCH: First Trailer for James Brown Biopic 'Get On Up'

A first trailer has arrived for the James Brown biopic “Get On Up,” starring Chadwick Boseman (who played another African American icon, Jackie Robinson, in last year’s “42”) in the title role. Tate Taylor of “The Help” is directing, while Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer (Oscar nominated and Oscar winning for “The Help,” respectively) have all reteamed for this new film. Watch below.

“Get On Up” hits theaters August 1, via Universal. Dan Ackroyd and Craig Robinson also star, lending some humor to the trailer. And of course great music is peppering the soundtrack. Mick Jagger is a producer.

Here’s the official synopsis:

In his follow-up to the four-time Academy Award-nominated blockbuster
The Help, Tate Taylor directs 42’s Chadwick Boseman as James Brown in Get on
Up. Based on the incredible life story of the Godfather of Soul, the film will
give a fearless look inside the music, moves and moods of Brown, taking
audiences on the journey from his impoverished childhood to his evolution into
one of the most influential figures of the 20th century. Boseman is joined in
the drama by Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer, Nelsan Ellis, Lennie James, Tika
Sumpter, Jill Scott and Dan Aykroyd.
