In the last decade or so, the horror genre has become infamous for producing box-office successes based on minimalist story concepts. The trend may continue later this year with the upcoming horror film “13 Sins,” starring Mark Webber (“Scott Pilgrim vs. the World) and Golden-Globe winner Ron Perlman (“Drive,” “Hellboy”).
“13 Sins” takes its audience on a wild ride alongside Elliot, a down-on-his-luck salesman whose response to a cryptic phone call leads him to a dangerous game in which he must perform thirteen tasks to earn the money he desperately needs, with each task becoming more violent and sadistic than the last.
The trailer seems to take a page out of the “Saw” series, with Webber as Elliot and Perlman as the officer hunting him down for his crimes, while the mysterious voice on the other end of the phone line intimates how easily people can suddenly turn into monsters when they need to.
“13 Sins” is directed by Daniel Stamm (“The Last Exorcism”) and is set for a limited release on April 18. Check out the trailer below:
