And the Awards For Horror Go to Elijah Wood, Joe Dante, 'Ghost Train' and More at the 2014 Stanley Film Festival

The Stanley Film Festival, a horror film festival held for the second year at the Stanly Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado and presented by the Denver Film Society, came to an end April 27th. The winners of the Visionary Award, Master of Horror Award, Stanley Dean’s Cup and more have been announced.

Throughout the four days, the festival screened over 20 feature films, seven retro titles and 19 shorts.

“The Stanley Film Festival exists to bring horror lovers together,” said program director, Landon Zakheim, in a statement.

The Master of Horror Award went to Joe Dante (“Burying the Ex,” “Gremlins”), who Zakheim called “a true master of horror.” 

The second annual Visionary Award went to Elijah Wood, Daniel Noah and Josh Waller. The trio, the co-founders of the production company SpectreVision, hosted a panel (along with Ana Lily Amirpour and Craig MacNeil) to discuss the future of their company and their nuanced approach to the horror genre.

The Audience Award for Short Film went to Paul Glubb and Nic Gorman’s “Here Be Monsters.” The Audience Award for Feature Film went to “What We Do In The Shadows,” a vampire mockumentary from Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement (of “Flight of the Concords”). 

The Jury Award for Short Film went to James Fleming and Kelly Hucker’s “Ghost Train,” about an an elderly man drawn into a macabre cabaret restaurant and becomes enchanted by the lead actress. 

Both the Stanley Dean’s Cup Jury Award and Stanley Dean’s Cup Audience Award went to “Wormbug,” directed by Arlen Konopaki. All contestants were students from local, national and international schools, and the Audience Award came with a $2,500 cash prize to the winning school.
