'Game of Thrones' Renewed for Fifth and Sixth Seasons

The season four premiere episode of “Game of Thrones” on Sunday was the most watched episode in the show’s history with a record-breaking 6.6 million viewers — an increase of 52% over the 4.4 million who tuned in for the Season 3 debut last year. Martin’s books afresh, as the on-screen and book-version story alignment has seen a steady separation as the seasons progress.

“Game of Thrones is a phenomenon like no other” said Michael Lombardo, president of HBO programming. “David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, along with their talented collaborators, continue to surpass themselves, and we look forward to more of their dazzling storytelling.”
