Geoff
Boucher, founder of the LA Times’ Hero Complex, kicks off a new monthly screening and stage-interview series at the American Cinematheque’s Egyptian Theater on May 2 : Humans from Earth. Designed as
a showcase for Comic-Con culture, the series bows with the cult
classic “Slither” and an in-person Q&A with writer-director James Gunn (who’s currently in post-production
on Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy”).
The series is just the first
initiative from the open-ended partnership between Boucher’s new company and the Cinematheque. The Egyptian is also set to host tapings of the
Humans from Earth podcast, which will be recorded in front of a live audience. The
first podcast on May 3 has a lineup of guests including the Russo brothers (“Captain America: The Winter Soldier”), Jon Favreau (“Iron Man”) and Gerard Way (former lead singer of My Chemical Romance and writer of the
Eisner-winning comics series “Umbrella Academy”).
