Harrison Ford Weighs In On “Greedo Shooting First” Controversy, Still Interested In ‘Blade Runner’ Sequel

“Han shot first!” is what any “Star Wars” fan will rightly insist really happened in the original release release of “Star Wars.” In case you somehow missed out, when George Lucas first released “Star Wars” in 1977, Han Solo found himself face-to-face with Greedo in Mos Eisley’s cantina, with the alien looking to collect a debt Han owed to Jabba The Hut, and threatening the pilot’s life with a blaster. But Han quickly dispatched Greedo, shooting him with a gun he kept hidden under the table. It was pretty cool. But for the 1997 theatrical release, George Lucas altered the scene, adding in footage that now had Greedo shooting first and missing, before Han fires back, killing him. Naturally, fans were incensed and to date, this is the only version of the scene available on DVD, and of the many tweaks Lucas made to his original trilogy after the fact, this is one of the most controversial. And now, Ford himself has weighed in.

The actor recently participated in a Reddit AMA and had this to say when asked about the tinkered sequence and who shot first: “I don’t [k]now and I don’t care.” Yikes.

But when it comes to “Blade Runner 2,” the developing sequel Ridley Scott is working on, the actor was a bit more chatty. As you might recall, Ford has already admitted to talking to Scott about the movie, and he here he reveals he’s more than open to coming back and reprising Deckard. “I’m quite curious and excited about seeing a new script for ‘Blade Runner’ if in fact the opportunity would exist to do another, if it’s a good script I would be very anxious to work with Ridley Scott again, he’s a very talented and passionate filmmaker,” he said. “And I think it would be very interesting to revisit the character.”

But we presume his opinion on which cut of the original movie he prefers is similar to his stance on who shot first. (You can read all about the theatrical vs. director’s cut right here.)

Much more at Reddit from the actor, including his admission that though he’s appearing in the sequels, he still hasn’t seen either “Anchorman: The Legend Of Ron Burgundy” or “The Expendables.” As for the quote he’s asked to say most often by fans? Watch below.
