It’s Wednesday, we’re half-way through the week and to top it all off, today is the late, great Charlie Chaplin’s birthday. In honour of both of these things, here’s 8 songs to close your day.
1. First up to ease you in, Charlie Chaplin’s iconic “Globe Scene”.
This is his first talkie, and in it he shows off a remarkable use of music. Get it on and bust out your own moves. Just don’t feel bad if they don’t match Charlie and the globe.
2. Angel Haze covers “Same Love”
The ever-controversial “Same Love” from Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, featuring Mary Lambert is given a bold, brilliant re-imagining by rapper Angel Haze. Haze spits some pretty amazing lyrics over the original, it makes what was a positive message for many even better in our book. Look out, in particular, for her bold rejection of all sexual labels. We love this.
3. Ed Sheeran covers “Drunk in Love”
Angel Haze has also covered this song, and we were in to that, but this might be the best Bey cover ever:
4. Kyla La Grange “Cut Your Teeth”
You may not have heard of the epic Kyla La Grange, but you will have by the end of the year, mark our words. In the meantime, enjoy this:
5. Asaf Avidan “One day / Reckoning Song (Wankelmut Remix)”
How is this still stuck in our heads?
6. Countré Black “It’s Raining Men“
In honour of Chaning Tatum’s announcement that Magic Mike XXL will have “stuff you’d never see in a movie ever again” we’re closing out this dance party with 3 classic songs from the first film.
7. The Unknown “Bang Bang Boom“
8. Kiss “Calling Dr Love”
Happy Two Days ’til Friday, everyone!
