Project of the Day: ‘Running Wild’

Project of the Day: 'Running Wild'

Here’s your daily dose of an indie film in progress; at the end of the week, you’ll have the chance to vote for your favorite.

In the meantime: Is this a movie you’d want to see? Tell us in the comments.

“Running Wild”

Tweetable Logline: The coming of age story of Liza and Eli: two childhood friends that should be soul mates, but are sexually incompatible.

Elevator Pitch: RUNNING WILD is a comedy/romance/western/road movie/coming of age story about LIZA (Zoë Worth) and ELI (Alden Ehrenreich), childhood friends with a disastrously dependent, sexual-tension-laden relationship. Back for their first winter break home from college, Liza and Eli run away together, and embark on a road trip to no where –encountering blood, sex, and a bar mitzvah. Liza and Eli tear each other apart, desperately trying to connect, and just keep running and running and running. The movie stars Alden Ehrenreich (Tetro, Blue Jasmine), and Zoë Worth (Chloe + Zoë, Shut Up and Drive), who in 2009, founded The Collectin.

Production Team:

Melanie Shaw was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. Her short films have been featured in the Los Angeles Film Festival, NYU’s New Visions and Voices (2010 Best Director), and NYU’s Fusion Film Festival. She is currently in post-production on her second film, Shut Up and Drive, starring Sarah Sutherland and Zoë Worth, produced by Starstream Entertainment and The Collectin.

Alden Ehrenreich co-founded The Collectin in 2009 with Zoë Worth. He has performed in and produced many plays and short films for the group. He has appeared in a few major feature films including Francis Ford Coppola’s Tetro (2009), Beautiful Creatures (2013), Stoker (2013), Woody Allen’s Blue Jasmine (2013), and the upcoming Untitled Warren Beatty Project. He went to NYU’s Gallatin School, and lives in Los Angeles.

Zoë Worth, co-founded The Collectin in 2009 with Alden Ehrenreich. She has performed in and produced 12 productions for the group. Most recently, she co-wrote and starred in Melanie Shaw’s second feature, Shut Up and Drive. She graduated from NYU’s Tisch School of Drama and currently lives in Los Angeles.

The film was produced by Izak Rappaport, Brian Williams and Michael Deveau – fellow NYU grads. Running Wild marks each of their first feature films as producers.

The film was shot by the wonderful documentary cinematographer Katrina Sorrentino, in a beautifully naturalistic and intimate way.

Production designer Emma Berliner has worked on a vast variety of feature and television projects, from features like the forthcoming Palo Alto Stories to “Boardwalk Empire” and “Parks and Recreation”. Her short film, that she wrote and directed, “Miss Ellis Island”, won the Oliver Stone Award for screenwriting in 2011.

Alex Fleshman composed all of the original music as well as several covers featured in the film.

About the Production:  Running Wild is the first film and long culminating project from the group The Collectin, a theater and film collective made up of some 35 mostly college-aged students -actors, directors, writers, and artists; creating work that is tailor-made to the strengths and unique qualities of the actors performing. This film was made through our actor based process and was a labor of love- done through favors and massive amounts of coffee. Exploring the psychological ramifications of a complicated sexual dynamic, Running Wild is an extremely personal story that we’re excited and ready to share with you.

Current Status: Fundraising for post-production finishing costs- to help finalize our sound mix, music licenses, titles, and to premiere the film.
