‘Snowtown Murders’ & ‘Macbeth’ Director Justin Kurzel Reteaming With Michael Fassbender For ‘Assassin’s Creed’

'Snowtown Murders' & 'Macbeth' Director Justin Kurzel Reteaming With Michael Fassbender For 'Assassin's Creed'

Having already forged a cinematic partnership with Steve McQueen, has Michael Fassbender found a new filmmaker to have a bromance with? It would seem so. Having just wrapped the highly anticipated “Macbeth” with “Snowtown Murders” director Justin Kurzel, Fassy is ready to reteam with him on this first solo blockbuster outing.

Deadline reports that Kurzel has been tapped to helm the video game adaptation “Assassin’s Creed.” It will be a step up for the filmmaker too, who will definitely be working on his biggest canvas yet, but it would see the folks behind the movie are confident he can pull it off. In case you’ve never played the game, it follows Desmond Miles, a bartender kidnapped by a corporation and forced to use a machine called the Animus, which allows him to relive the memories of his ancestor Altair, who was an Assassin in the Middle East during the Crusades. Basically, it’s a convoluted set up for ass-kicking to happen in a variety of settings (as evidenced by the game’s sequels).

The film does have an August 7, 2015 release date penciled in but we’d be shocked if that happens, considering that Kurzel will likely have to finish “Macbeth” before he can move on to this. Maybe it’ll get pushed back? We shall see. Either way, a new cinematic brotherhood is forming, and it makes all the more excited to see how “Macbeth” has turned out.
