Steven Spielberg & Tom Hanks May Reteam For Cold War Thriller

“Saving Private Ryan”

Another day, another Thing That Steven Spielberg Might Direct. The past few months have seen the filmmaker get linked to a bunch of projects as he continues to figure what his follow-up to “Lincoln” will be, including “Montezuma,” a possible “West Side Story” remake and the religious drama The Kidnapping of Edgardo Mortara.” And so here’s another one, but boosted by the possibility he’ll be reteaming with a longtime collaborator.

Tom Hanks is now attached to a Cold War thriller over at DreamWorks that Spielberg is currently eyeing to direct. If it comes together, Hanks would be play attorney James Donovan, who is sent behind enemy lines by the CIA to negotiate the release of a U-2 pilot shot down and captured in Russia. So yeah, sounds like it could be great, but of course, who knows if this will be Spielberg’s next or if it will survive the development process. And let’s not forget Spielberg and Hanks are already at work at HBO on yet another WWII project—an adaptation of Donald L. Miller’s “Masters of the Air: America’s Bomber Boys Who Fought the Air War Against Nazi Germany.”

So either way, there’s a new joint coming from Spielberg and Hanks, and if all goes well, possibly two. [Variety]
