Tribeca Video: Gia Coppola, Emma Roberts and Nat Wolff Discuss ‘Palo Alto’

Tribeca Video: Gia Coppola, Emma Roberts and Nat Wolff Discuss 'Palo Alto'

Palo Alto” director-writer Gia Coppola sat down with Anne Thompson to speak about her debut feature at the 2014 Tribeca Film Festival. Their conversation, which also included stars Emma Roberts and Nat Wolff, was part of a series of talks hosted at the Apple Store in SoHo.

Based on a collection of short stories by James Franco, “Palo Alto” follows a group of teenagers as they come of age.

Thompson asked Coppola if she ever turned towards her powerhouse filmmaking family for support on the film. While she has learned a lot from simply being around her talented family members, Coppola said, “This was James’ book and his production company, so I got the luxury to lean on him and have his support.”

Thompson also asked two of the films stars, Roberts and Wolff, how they felt about the script. Both actors expressed admiration for the source material and the adaptation. Roberts said, “I actually read the book literally the day it came out… I absolutely fell in love with it… It’s one of the only scripts I can say that I love just as much as the book and in different ways.”

Wolff said, “I was blown away by how real all the characters were. Nobody was black and white. Every single character was fully fleshed out.”
