Watch: First Trailer For 'Insecure' Featuring 'Blue Is The Warmest Color' Star Adele Exarchapoulos

We at the Playlist love Adele Exarchapoulos, whose breakthrough role in the Palme d’Or winner “Blue Is The Warmest Colour” brought her to the world’s attention last year. Attention has of course translated into more roles, and she’s set to appear in Sean Penn‘s next piece of directing work, “The Last Face,” which will start production this summer.

In the meantime, however, Exarchapoulos has been working in her native France, and now the first trailer for “Insecure” (called “Qui vive” in France, which means something like “who goes there?” as well as “who lives?”) has arrived. Exarchapoulos stars alongside Reda Kateb, who played detainee Ammar in those early, brutal interrogation scenes in “Zero Dark Thirty.” Here, Kateb plays a nursing student trying to better himself in inner-city Paris and making ends meet with a gig as a security guard, a job which brings him into contact with animation student Jenny (Exarchapoulos) but also with harassing teenagers and a more sinister criminal gang.

It looks like a fairly conventional set-up, but director Marianne Tardieu has a back catalogue of shorts and documentaries about the deprivation of urban France that will bring it edge, and both leads are excellent: here’s hoping “Insecure” will bring the two of them the recognition they deserve. We’ll let you know when we have U.S. release details. [via The Film Stage]
