5 Best Bets on TV This Week: '24: Live Another Day,' 'Louie' and More

Sure, Sunday tends to be overcrowded with high-end TV like “Game of Thrones” and “Mad Men,” but what do the other nights have to offer? Every Monday, we bring you five noteworthy highlights from the other six days of your upcoming week.

“24: Live Another Day” – Season 9 Premiere

Monday, May 5th at 8pm on Fox

The limited event series begins tonight with a two-hour premiere. Kiefer Sutherland reprises the role of Jack Bauer, but fans be warned: “24: Live Another Day” does not follow the real-time structure used in the original series. Instead, each episode focuses on a specific hour, with large blocks of time passing in between certain episodes.

“Louie” – Season 4 Premiere

Monday, May 5th at 10pm on FX

After a year and a half on hiatus, “Louie” will finally return to the air tonight. Since Louis C.K. is the only regular character in the series, if you’re looking to add another show to your roster then this is the one to add. No need to worry about catching on previous episodes in order to understand the current season. We’re not saying you shouldn’t try to catch up — because you should — just feel free to take your time.

“New Girl” – Season 3 Finale

Tuesday, May 6th at 9pm on Fox

Nick and Jess may have broken up, but plans — namely a cruise vacation — are making it nearly impossible for them to avoid one another. How then, should they go about solving the problem? Go on the cruise and bring a bunch of your friends! Let’s see how this “break-up” really pans out.

“Maron” Season 2 Premiere

Thursday, May 8th IFC 10pm

Stand-up comedian Marc Maron stars as a fictional version of himself in this absurdist comedy on IFC. Although “Maron” has a regular cast of five characters that appear in each episode, including Judd Hirsch who stars as Maron’s father, first-time viewers should be able to follow along with the famous podcaster no trouble.

“Comedy Bang Bang” Season 3 Premiere

Thursday May 8th, IFC 10:30pm

The popular Scott Aukerman radio show-turned-podcast-turned-late-night-TV-show will feature Patton Oswalt on its third season premiere, with the stand-up comic and Twitter god talking about his experience auditioning for J.J. Abrams’ “Star Wars” sequels. IFC has 20 episodes coming up for the third season of “Comedy Bang Bang.” Guests will include Fred Armison, Josh Galifianakis, Nick Offerman, Josh Groban and Tony Hawk. Did you raise your eyebrow in amusement when you read those last two names? So did we.
