Cannes Market: Abel Ferrara's 'Welcome to New York,' Starring Depardieu and Bisset, Set to Premiere (TRAILER)

It’s just been announced that Abel Ferrara’s latest film “Welcome to New York,” starring Gerard Depardieu and Jacqueline Bisset as husband and wife, is set to premiere at Cannes on May 17. It should be noted that this is a market screening, not in the official selection.
Ferrara has had six films in the selection –only “Body Snatchers” in 1993 played in competition– and distributor Wild Bunch is a major Cannes player so the film must have been rejected from the lineup.

They’re promoting the film as one of their first to bypass theaters and go out via streaming “E-Cinema.” Larger-than-life Depardieu–who has moved to Russia to avoid France’s tax laws— and Bisset will join Ferrara at the Cannes press conference.

A story of one of the world’s most powerful man’s sudden and humiliating fall into disgrace,  Depardieu plays Mr Deveraux, a man according to the synopsis as  ‘a man who handles billions of dollars a day, who controls the economic fate of nations, a man who dreamed of saving the world and cannot save himself’.
