A few days following its world premiere in competition at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival, Tommy Lee Jones’ new western “The Homesman” has landed at Saban Films for a North American release. The film marks the company’s first ever acquisition. Jones stars in the film alongside Hilary Swank and Meryl Streep.
As Indiewire reported earlier, Saban Films, headed by former RLJ Entertainment executive Bill Bromiley, was launched prior to the festival. They plan to release “The Homesman” theatrically this fall. The new company is looking to acquire eight to 10 feature films per
year and distribute in North America via a major studio distribution
partner, with whom Saban Films is currently in talks.
“‘The Homesman’ is the perfect example of the quality, high-caliber slate of projects
we aim to build,” said Adam Chesnoff, President and COO
of Saban Capital Group in a statement.
Tommy Lee Jones added, “I
am delighted that Saban Films has chosen ‘The Homesman’ to begin their
venture into film release. Our company has full confidence in Saban
Films and I sincerely hope we will serve them
