“X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST”–You have to hand it to Fox, they staked a claim to Memorial Day, even in the face of “Godzilla” and Spidey, and then pulled it off to the tune of $111 million for the four days. It will be interesting to see where the film goes from here. The last “X:Men” movie to open on Memorial Day was “Last Stand” and that fell 67% in its second week with only “The Break-Up” to open and this time they’ll have “Maleficent” and “A Million Ways To Die In The West” to contend with. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves and let everyone enjoy an X-ceptional number.
HIT OR MISS?: Triple to deep right, scoring Trout and Pujols
BLENDED–The third time was definitely not the charm as Adam and Drew left audiences flat. The $14.2 million three day take was the second lowest Sandler live action comedy opener in 18 years (only “bested” by “That’s My Boy”).

CHEF--Open Road expanded Jon Favreau’s “Chef” to 500 theatres this weekend and the $5,851 per screen average resulted in a spicy $2.9 million four day meal. To reach a wider audience, the company has to do further marketing and PR but it’s a good start.

BELLE–Fox Searchlight has had a great deal of success stretching out “Grand Budapest Hotel” and has settled itself in for an early summer run with “Belle” which expanded to 453 theatres this week and grossed $2.1 million for the four days with a per screen average of $4,635.
