IFC Midnight Buys The Vicious Bros.' 'Extraterrestrial'

IFC Midnight has acquired U.S rights to The Vicious Brothers’ (“Grave Encounters”) sci-fi horror film “Extraterrestrial,” which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival. 

“Extraterrestrial” follows a group of friends on a weekend trip to a cabin in the woods who find themselves terrorized by alien visitors.

At Tribeca, an Indiewire critic gave “Extraterrestrial” gave the film credit for its technical chops: “The camera and lens work look significantly better than the budget suggests, the CGI is impressive, and white light spills from flashlights and windows like thick white gauze.” However, he also said, “These are the kind of horny, alcohol-fueled young people who think it’s a good idea to split up and search the endless dark corridors of insane asylums, and who can’t figure out how to get around a log in the road.”

The film stars Brittany Allen, Freddie Stroma, Jesse Moss, and Melanie Papalia, with Gill Bellows and Michael Ironside.

The Vicious Brothers, otherwise known as Canadian filmmakers Colin Minihan and Stuart Ortiz, previously directed the found-footage feature 2011 “Grave Encounters” and its 2012 sequel. 

“Extraterrestrial” was created and written by The Vicious Brothers. Producers are Shawn Angelski, Martin Fisher, Twin Engine films, and Pink Buffalo Films.  Paris Kasidokostas-Latsis, Terry Dougas, and Randy Manis are executive producers.
