James Cameron Working on an 'Avatar' Cirque du Soleil Show

Not only has James Cameron got a slew of “Avatar” sequels on his long-term slate, he’s also now taking his blue Na’vi to the circus. The director is set to develop an “Avatar” live production for Cirque du Soleil.

The show is slated for a late 2015 bow — this would be about a year before “Avatar 2” arrives in theaters, if IMDb’s dates remain correct. Cameron is currently on pre-production for that film.

Very few details have yet been revealed, other than the show being “inspired” by the 2009 blockbuster that amassed $2.7 billion worldwide. Twentieth Century Fox will act as a partner on the live production.

This is the second collaboration between Cameron and Cirque du Soleil. Along with “Shrek” director Andrew Adamson he worked on 2012’s “Worlds Away,” which had a 3D theatrical release.
