New ‘Twin Peaks’ Box Set Promises ‘The Entire Mystery,’ with 90 Minutes of Deleted ‘Fire Walk with Me’ Footage

New 'Twin Peaks' Box Set Promises 'The Entire Mystery,' with 90 Minutes of Deleted 'Fire Walk with Me' Footage

Many David Lynch fans were, understandably, bummed when he put the kibosh on any hopes for a new season of “Twin Peaks.” But instead, he is offering acolytes of his early-90s cult series an even greater gift: a new Blu-Ray box set, with 90 minutes of never-before-seen footage from the prequel film “Fire Walk with Me.” (Entertainment Weekly has a teaser for the new footage. Watch below.)

Back in 2011, fans petitioned for Lynch to pull these scenes out of the vault and into the light — and he has done so accordingly, albeit three years later. Dubbed “Twin Peaks: The Entire Mystery and the Missing Pieces,” the set hits shelves July 29, and features a new transfer of the two seasons.

To get you ramped up, a new Tumblr, featuring gorgeously haunting images and GIFs from the series and film, promises more mystery to come. The owls are not what they seem, evidently.

As a prequel to the cult TV series, “Fire Walk with Me” took the oddball, quietly malignant show to disturbing depths, grounding the dark fate of murdered high schooler Laura Palmer in a plot of rape, incest and drug addiction. These were the things viewers otherwise preferred to be kept off the small screen when “Twin Peaks” aired on ABC. “Fire Walk with Me” is one of Lynch’s most confounding films. Like his other works, the first third is like a standalone short, priming you for the beautiful hell that awaits you.

From the looks of it, the soon-to-be-seen material from “Fire Walk with Me” will have more crazy Leland, more Moira Kelly as Donna (eh…), more Gordon Cole (yes!), more David Bowie weirdness and, it seems, more Bobby, who’s seen in the trailer thrashing and howling over a bag of fake cocaine.
