Patricia Clarkson and Debra Winger Joining David Cronenberg at the Provincetown Film Festival

Patricia Clarkson and Debra Winger Joining David Cronenberg at the Provincetown Film Festival

The Provincetown International Film Festival is truly about as good as a small film festival gets. Unofficially queer (but given it takes place in one of the gayest places on Earth and has John Waters as its permanent resident artist, it’s pretty darn queer), the festival always has great programming, great parties, and great guests. Because who doesn’t want to spend a weekend in P-Town? Patricia Clarkson and Debra Winger sure do, as they’ll be joining the previously announced David Cronenberg as this year’s festival honourees.

The festival — taking place June 18-23 — also announced that Zachary Booth, Sheila Canavan, Jonathan Demme, Tom Dolby, Andre Gregory, Barney Frank, Ira Sachs and Tom Williams will be heading to the fest, and that Dolby and Williams’s “Last Weekend” — starring Ms. Clarkson — will be the opening night film. “Compared to What: The Improbable Journey of Barney Frank” and “Love Is Strange” were also announced, with the rest of the program coming soon.

“We are delighted to honor Patricia Clarkson and Debra Winger at this year’s festival,” said Connie White, PIFF’s Artistic Director. “It is perfect timing to honor Patti, as we can celebrate her remarkable talent and also spotlight her beautiful performance in ‘Last Weekend’ as our Opening Night Selection. In choosing Debra, we get to highlight one of our favorite actresses and a career shaped by thoughtful and intelligent artistic choices, a hallmark of the annual Faith Hubley tribute.”

Clarkson will accept the award following the opening night screening of ‘Last Weekend,’ while Winger will receive the Faith Hubley Career Achievement Award in conversation with the always amazing film critic B. Ruby Rich during the Conversations with Honorees ceremony at Provincetown’s Town Hall on Saturday, June 21 (where John Waters will talk to David Cronenberg, oh my!).
