“He that can have patience can have what he will”. Benjamin Franklin said that (or was it Pauly Shore?). “Godzilla” fans among us have been patient for 16 long, grueling years waiting for someone to come along and do justice to the Japanese legend. The last “Godzilla” outing was indeed back in 1998. Yes I did distribute that film. No I will never forget it. But finally we have a monster for the 21st Century and he is primed to wreak havoc and mayhem at the box office this weekend. The industry had the three day opening in the low to mid 60’s but I stuck to my Monday prediction of $74 mil and last night’s $9.3 take has done nothing to dissuade me.
Elsewhere, look for the boys and girls of comedy (“Neighbors” and “The Other Woman”) to hang in fairly well, “Amazing Spider-Man” to continue to drop and “Million Dollar Arm” to need Tommy John surgery. Here’s how Box Office Insider sees it…
