A lot of film industry haggling occurred over the past two weeks at the Cannes Film Festival. Our critic called this year’s fest one of the best Cannes in years, and not just because the movies were good. It also proved a lucrative market for distributors to snatch up some of the films playing at the festival and being sold on the marketplace.
Sony Pictures Classics led the way bringing five titles to the fest and making another five buys throughout the next two weeks. After a successful Sundance, A24 was able to hit the ground running at Cannes as well with David Michôd’s “The Rover” already under its belt. Paramount it seems spent its entire allotment on the Amy Adams flick “Story of Your Life,” paying a hefty $20 million.
Check out the entire list of acquisitions that occurred before and during Cannes this year below and we’ll keep adding to the list as they continue to come in.
