Xavier Dolan Prepping English-Language 'The Death And Life Of John F. Donovan' & Jeremy Saulnier Lines Up 'Green Room'

If you haven’t heard, our man Gabe Toro fell head over heels for Jeremy Saulnier‘s “Blue Ruin,” the “sudden, terrifying, and excitingly singular” thriller
that follows a beach bum-turned-avenger.The film was likewise lauded last year on the Croisette, taking home the Fipresci Prizeaka the international film critic’s award. With “Blue Ruin” bowing in theaters and on demand last month, the accolades keep on rolling in and Broad Green Pictures is listening.

Variety is reports that the company will produce Saulnier’s follow up, a crime thriller titled “Green Room,” and it sounds kind of amazing. The story will follow “a punk rock band find themselves trapped in a secluded venue after stumbling upon an act of violence, fighting for their lives against a gang of white power skinheads.” Geez. Production on the movie begins in September, but until then, check out our interview with Saulnier or listen to the director comment on a sequence via NYT’s Anatomy of a Scene.

Meanwhile, “Mommy” director and current Cannes darling Xavier Dolan already has another script ready to go. The prolific filmmaker tells The Guardian he has an English-language script finished, “The Death and Life of John F. Donovan.” No word yet on what it’s about, but it could be the project about Hollywood he’s been quietly teasing? Guess we’ll find out as he says the script is currently going through”the firewall of actors’ agents.”Intriguing stuff, and hopefully more details surface soon. Dolan might want to think about giving Jessica Chastain a call….
