Ben Foster Reveals Role In Duncan Jones' 'Warcraft,' Says It Will Be "One Helluva 3D Event"

Filming has wrapped and so begins the lengthy post-production process on “Warcraft,” Universal‘s big-budget role of the dice on the hugely popular MMO game. Movies based on button mashers have had a tricky run to the big screen, with translating an interactive experience to a passive one not always an easy bridge to cross. But “Moon” and “Source Code” director Duncan Jones has certainly excited at least one member of his cast, Ben Foster, who is already speaking glowingly about the project, and has revealed his role in the somewhat secretive tentpole.

“The character in ‘Warcraft’ that I play is named Medivh. He’s a mage, which is essentially a sorcerer,” the actor told IGN, who adds there are some thematic elements at play too. “It shows both sides of a conflict, which is exciting to me. It’s not just a video game turned into a movie. It’s asking, hopefully, an important question of, where do we limit our compassion for what we consider to be the bad guys?” he added.

However, most impressing Foster is some of the motion capture work he’s seen thus far (for the record, his character is not mo-cap) and he promises your eyeballs will be appropriately dazzled, so it may be worth paying the extra surcharge for three dimensions. “The way that they’re pushing motion-capture — I just saw some of the test footage — it’s unlike anything I’ve ever seen. It’s performance-capture. It pushes it to the next level. It’s going to be one helluva 3D event,” Foster said.

Certainly, with the release date a long way off and set for March 11, 2016, the director and studio are taking their time to get it right. But it will it be enough to get folks to log off the online game and step into the multiplex? Will non-gamers give it a go? Weigh in below.
