Lupita Nyong'o, Eugene Jarecki and David Gordon Green Among the 271 Invited to Join Academy

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has invited 271 artists and executives to join the organization this year. Honorees this year include Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o, documentary filmmaker Eugene Jarecki and indie stalwart David Gordon Green. Each year Academy members may sponsor one candidate for membership within their branch. New member application reviews take place in the spring.

New members will be welcomed into the Academy at an invitation-only reception in September.

“This year’s class of invitees represents some of the most talented, creative and passionate filmmakers working in our industry today,” said Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs. “Their contributions to film have entertained audiences around the world, and we are proud to welcome them to the Academy.”
