*** Actor Don Cheadle is using crowd funding entity Indiegogo to raise money for his Miles Davis biopic, “Miles Ahead”. Cheadle would play the jazz legend with Ewan McGregor co-starring.
*** VFX delays have caused The Wachowski’s sci-fi actioner, “Jupiter Ascending” from Warners to move six weeks prior to release to February of 2016, knocking Liam Neeson’s “Run All Night”, also from Warners, out of that perch. Hmmm, it should be very interesting to see how this plays out.
*** Universal, Legendary and Imax will team up for as many as 15 titles between the end of this year and 2016.
*** “Dallas Buyers Club” director Jean-Marc Vallee for the drama, “Demolition”, and Jake Gyllenhaal is rumored to be in initial talks to play the film’s main subject, an investment banker who tries to recover from personal tragedy.
*** Cinemark Theatres CEO Tim Warner pushed for greater satellite based Alternative Content at a recent entertainment conference, stressing the ease with which studios can supply exhibition with content such as last Thursday’s “Night Before Our Stars” event and other content from studios’ parent companies. I completely agree with Tim and personally I honestly believe that a year from now the movie theatre landscape, especially mid week, will look very different, with companies finally taking advantage of convenient delivery systems and readily available content. It just takes one or two glowing examples of how Event Cinema can bring people into movie theatres during the week for all studios to start doing it.
