Dan Stevens rocked the fan boat when he departed “Downton Abbey,” with loyal Downton-ers shocked and dismayed at the death of his character, Matthew, the Abbey’s heir.
Now, he’s up to something very different, playing the mysterious title character in “The Guest,” a horror-thriller from Adam Wingard, director of the home invasion slasher “You’re Next.” In the film, Steven’s character, an unnamed soldier, shows up at the house of the Peterson family, introducing himself as a friend of their son who died in battle. They welcome the stranger into their home, when suddenly a spate of accidental deaths begins to take place across the town.
Stevens has several films on the docket for 2014: “A Walk Among the Tombstones,” Scott Frank’s crime mystery starring Liam Neeson, “The Cobbler” from director Thomas McCarthy” and “Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb,” the third installment of the Ben Stiller-starring franchise, in which Stevens will play Sir Lancelot.
