Watch 'A Taste of Capoeira: Batizado Time!!!' (Filmmaker Releases Feature Doc Online For Free)

2 summers ago, I featured a documentary titled FiGHT DANCE SiNG: A Capoeirista’s story – a film that was sent to me by the filmmaker, Kamal Robinson, his feature film debut, which he made for virtually nothing, and uploaded to YouTube for audiences to discover and watch for free!

Since then, he’s been working on second feature documentary, this one titled A Taste of Capoeira: Batizado Time!!!, which, as the filmmaker states, takes viewers behind the scenes of Capoeira’s biggest annual event, a Batizado.

What is a Batizado?

A Batizado is a Capoeira graduation ceremony and celebration. Capoeira academies around the world host Batizados annually and the event draws a migration of Capoeiristas from all over the world to celebrate the art of Capoeira. The movie also gives incite as to why Capoeira is “culture” and not just another trend.

The filmmaker says that this is the second in what he calls the “Taste of Capoeira” series which focuses on documenting the real lives of Capoeiristas and the unique ways Capoeira has made a home in urban environments around the world.

And you can check it out for yourselves, because, as I said, Kamal has uploaded the entire film to his YouTube channel, where it can be watched for free. I’ve embedded it below.

It’s the type of bold (and some would say crazy) move filmmakers don’t make very often, and I’m interested in seeing how it pays off for the filmmaker in the long run. This is the second feature film he’s produced with his own money, and made available online for all to watch for free!

His hope is, in part, to hopefully raise awareness for himself, as well as money for his future film(s), based on the strength of the last 2.

I can’t knock his hustle.

Watch A Taste of Capoeira: Batizado Time!!! in full below – or bookmark it to watch over the weekend, when you have more time. It’s 126 minutes long:
