Woody Allen's Next Film Begins Casting, Expected to Shoot in Rhode Island in July

Woody Allen’s films have taken us all over the world these last few years–Paris in 2011, Rome in 2012, San Francisco in 2013 and the French Riviera this year in his new “Magic in the Moonlight”–and his next film will bring us back home, according to some juicy, newly released details.

The Boston Globe reports that Allen’s untitled 2015 project will start shooting in Rhode Island this July, with auditions currently taking place at Boston-based C.P. Casting.  Details are scarce, but the Globe describes the film as a “‘contemporary story’ with academics, graduate students, and middle and working-class folks.”  (Here’s hoping it centers around my beloved alma mater, L’il Rhody’s Brown University, and not one of our higher-profile New England rivals.)

Last month, Variety broke the news that both Joaquin Phoenix and Emma Stone will star in Allen’s 2015 film, anchoring a larger ensemble.  Stone is also a lead in this year’s “Magic in the Moonlight”– Allen seems to be developing an attachment to her as he has to other actresses in the past.  As we noted early this year, Sony Pictures Classics has already nabbed the North American rights to the film.

If you haven’t seen the quirky, enjoyable trailer for “Magic” yet, you can check it out below.
