'Young Ones' Creator Rik Mayall's Death Saddens Comedy Vets

Influential British comedian Rik Mayall has passed away at the age of 56, it was announced today, leaving behind his wife, three children and a shocked comedy community.

Mayall co-created and starred in “The Young Ones,” which ran from 1982-1984 but has continued to find an audience among cult comedy fans decades later, thanks to its rude humor, violence and surreal twists. He also appeared in “Blackadder,” the “SNL”-esque “Saturday Night” and “Bottom.”

British TV veterans including Edgar Wright and Chris O’Dowd have been turing to Twitter to pay tribute to Mayhall; for a taste of the rarefied talent Mayall worked with throughout his career, check out this “The Young Ones” clip, featuring guest appearances by Hugh Laurie, Stephen Fry and Emma Thompson.
