Application Deadline for The Canon Filmmaker Award Program Announced

Shooting a film later this year? Don’t want to pay for equipment? Easy. Apply to The Canon Filmmaker Award Program and you could be covered. Open to Film Independent Fellows, alumni of the Los Angeles Film Festival and Spirit Awards Nominees and Winners, the program, run by Film Independent, selects qualified filmmakers on a quarterly basis who will be loaned Canon camera packages for their production. The next quarterly application deadline (the fourth this year) is August 4th.

Film Independent judges applications on the following criteria: “Overall quality of script, strength of production plan, strength of cinematographer’s previous work, uniqueness of vision, original, provocative subject matter, economy of means and well-conceived plan for use of the award.”

Previous recipients include Rodrigo Reyes (“Under The Sun”), Emily Ting (“It’s Already Tomorrow in Hong Kong”), Josh Penn (“Ad Inexplorata”), J. Davis & Steve Bannatyne (“Manson Family Vacation”), Chad Burris & Hossein Keshavarz (“A Pebble of Love”), Milena Pastreich (“Birdmen”), and Elena Greenlee & Márcia Nunes (“Manos Sucias”). Canon first launched the program at the 2012 Los Angeles Film Festival.
