Attention Filmmakers: Submit Your Online Videos to the Streamy Awards and Vote for TV's Best Social Media Campaign

The Fourth Annual Streamy Awards, celebrating the best in digital content, are expanding — not only are they looking for you to submit your own online video projects, but they’ll also be honoring the TV shows with the best social media campaigns, individuals who have mastered the art of Vine and the most talented YouTubers out there.

The Streamy Awards state they will “reflect the current state of original programming native to YouTube and online video with the addition of subject area categories as well as Vine and television categories.” In regard to Vine, the Twitter-run six-second video app for smartphones, the Streamy Awards have added three categories devoted to the addictive platform: Comedian, Creativity, and Viner of the Year.

The organization’s chosen way to honor traditional television is perhaps the most intriguing of the new categories, if not the entire awards. The Streamy Awards will recognize television series “that are ‘doing it right’ by engaging online audiences with innovative use of original online video and best practices in social media.” The category includes TV talk shows, late night shows, variety shows, competition shows and original series.

That means “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon” and all its clips, interviews and online segments may be in direct competitions with shows like “Hannibal,” which features creator Bryan Fuller live-tweeting episodes and offering fans exclusive access to bonus features. One stipulation: Programming must be made available online to qualify, via an online streaming service.

“We’re looking for television programming authentic to the medium,” said executive producer Drew Baldwin. “This starts with the creative vision and continues through the concepts, content form factor, execution, and social media engagement. There is a difference between marketing your show online and truly embracing the digital medium. I think it is clear which shows are truly resonating online, and which are best using digital as a transmedia device. This is no small feat, and we want to recognize television shows and the creative people behind them for these achievements.”

Fans can even submit their favorite programs online, with the entrant in each category earning the most nominations landing an official nomination. Creators can also submit their own videos through the site, but a $95 fee is applied.

Last year’s Streamy Awards collected more than 2 million Twitter impressions during the live stream of their awards show — outpacing the NBA All Star game while drawing in more than 7 million viewers.
