Fasten your seat belts. Lena Dunham’s first book is just two-and-a-half months away. Before and after the release of her essay collection, “Not That Kind of Girl: A Young Woman Tells You What She’s ‘Learned,’” the writer-director-actress will take a cross-country promo tour. But she’s making it more fun by pulling in some promo partners.
Appropriately titled “Not That Kind of Tour,” the three-week-long series will feature, besides the usual readings, discussions, Q & As and signed books, in EW’s words, an “absurdly amazing” set of talent. Besides “Girls” co-writer Jenni Konner and co-star Jemima Kirke, there’s writer-director Miranda July, comedian Amy Schumer (“Inside Amy Schumer,” Judd Apatow‘s upcoming “Trainwreck”), and actress-musician Carrie Brownstein (“Portlandia”). Creative types looking for exposure take note: Dunham has created an open call on her website, allowing talent to perform opening-act duties where none is otherwise slotted. (Austin and Los Angeles dates don’t yet have additional talent listed.)
“Not That Kind of Girl” features several advice essays as well as a peek inside Dunham’s unusual upbringing in New York. A controversial Gawker post from December of 2012, even in its now-truncated form, should give you some idea. Fans of her work (yours truly included) will be eager to sample Dunham’s natural evolution. Others? Now you know on which nights the local Barnes & Noble should be avoided.
