'Oh, This Is a Bad Movie': Jimmy Fallon Reads Roger Ebert's Reviews on the Tonight Show

Chaz Ebert visited Jimmy Fallon at the Tonight Show on Friday as part of her ongoing promotional tour for “Life Itself,” and Fallon took the opportunity to clean out an old wound by reading aloud from Ebert’s one-star pan of “Taxi.” It’s the second clip — be sure to watch all the way to the end to catch Questlove’s priceless reaction to the clip of Roger Ebert and Gene Siskel snapping at each other while recording an episode promo.

If you go back and read Ebert’s full review, you might notice that Fallon is conspicuous by his absence; although he starred opposite Queen Latifah, he’s only mentioned twice, once by way of putting Ann-Margaret’s character in context. Ebert took much greater notice of Fallon in “Fever Pitch,” where he wrote:

He achieves a kind of perfection in his high spirits, his boyish enthusiasm, his dependence on the Sox for a purpose in his life, and his bafflement about romance. He doesn’t know that Freud’s dying words were allegedly, ‘Women! What do they want?’ But he would have understood them.”
