Release Dates: Jon Stewart's 'Rosewater' Readied For Oscar Season, 'The Huntsman' Coming In Spring 2016

You can have a great movie, but if you don’t position it properly, it won’t find the audience it deserves, nor maximize the profitability you were hoping for. That’s a longwinded way of saying some movies have announced some new release dates, so let’s dive right in.

First off, “The Daily Show” host Jon Stewart‘s directorial debut “Rosewater” has been slated for a November 7th release date, so yes, you can now adjust your Oscar picks accordingly. The based-on-a-true-story tale is led by Gael Garcia Bernal, who plays Iranian/Canadian journalist Maziar Bahari who was arrested during the 2009 Iranian election protests, which led to him spending 118 days in jail. While detained, he was interrogated, often while blindfolded and facing away from interrogators, and forced to confess to a number of crimes. Potent stuff.

Switching gears, Universal‘s prequel to “Snow White & The Huntsman” is getting more real. They’ve slated it to hit theaters on April 22, 2016. The movie will bring Chris Hemsworth back to the title role, with Frank Darabont directing the tale of how the fates of two characters, The Huntsman Eric and Ravenna, intersected before they met Snow White. But this announcement means bumping another Universal movie that was already scheduled for that date. The Alex Kurtzman directed “The Mummy” will now land a few months later in the heart of summer, on June 24, 2016.

Lastly, the James Wan produced “Demonic” will arrive on December 12th. The film centers on the aftermath of a horrific massacre where five college students were brutally murdered inside an abandoned home. Detective Mark Lewis and psychologist Dr. Elizabeth Klein question one of the few survivors who explains they were amateur ghost-hunters, seeking out paranormal phenomenon at the abandoned house, which was believed to be haunted. But what started out as a harmless activity turned into something truly terrifying.
