The Western lives on, or at least a vestige of it does on television.
Now entering its fourth season, AMC’s “Hell on Wheels” has, for the most part, flown under the radar. The period drama takes place in the years immediately following the American Civil War, during the construction of the Transcontinental Railroad, and features an eclectic ensemble cast including “Star Trek: The Next Generation” alum Colm Meaney and rapper Common (along with Anson Mount).
In an exclusive new promo that you can watch below, a graphical time-lapse of a railroad and a city under construction serves as the backdrop for a rousing speech delivered by Meaney’s character.
At one point, he says, “And our courageous men who go, know this, in order to grow, we must venture into unknown territory.” Venture into unknown territory indeed. If you’re interested in catching up, look no further than Netflix, which has the first three seasons available to stream. “Hell on Wheels” returns on August 2nd at 9pm.
