Based on a series of novels by Diana Gabaldon, “Outlander” (which takes its name from the first book in the series) centers on Claire, a World War II British Army nurse who is mysteriously sent back in time to 18th century Scotland. Although she is already married in the 20th century, Claire ends up falling in love with the dashing Jamie Fraser in this new time period.
Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan co-star as Claire and Jamie. The series, which was given a 16-episode order by Starz last year, is being showrun by Ronald D. Moore, best known for helming Syfy’s “Battlestar Galactica” reboot.
In the trailer, which you can watch below, “Outlander” seems like it might be a cross between “Kate and Leopold” and “Game of Thrones.”
As Starz would say, “the kilt drops” on August 9 at 9pm. “Outlander” will also be made available online beginning August 2. Watch the full trailer below.
