Adapting Cormac McCathy’s novels for the screen is beginning to look like a trend. This one, a “Child of God” adapted by writer James Franco — who, in his typical fashion, also directs and acts — is set for release theatrically on August 1st and on on-demand platforms on October 28th.
Starring little known Scott Haze as lead Lester Ballard, this latest clip shows an episode in that characters growing distance from social mores as he attempts murder while attired like the little girl from your worst nightmares. The look of Franco’s film accentuates the rural poverty of his Appalachian Tennessee setting, with raggedy clothes and houses that have faded into the landscape. Brian Lally also features in this clip, and the film co-stars Jim Parrack and Tim Blake Nelson.
“Child of God” has screened to mixed reviews and is being released by Spotlight Pictures. It will hit theaters this Friday.
