Watch: Simon Pegg Searches For Meaning In New Trailer For 'Hector And The Search for Happiness'

It’s no small feat having co-written and starred in the hallowed Cornetto Trilogy, but Simon Pegg has also managed to carve out a sizable back catalog of generally entertaining if sometimes forgettable features. Between lending support to the “Mission: Impossible” and “Star Trek” franchises, you’d think the “Nerd Do Well” author wouldn’t have the time to turn in full-fledged leading man performances in “A Fantastic Fear of Everything” and again, in the upcoming “Hector and the Search for Happiness.”

Now, a new trailer has dropped, looking suspiciously reminiscent of “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.” Based on François Lelord‘s novel of the same name, Pegg portrays the titular hector, a psychiatrist whose well-organized, positively banal life is beginning to suffocate him. He leaves a doting wife (Rosemund Pike) and appears to travel the world, running across Stellan Skarsgård, Jean Reno, and Christopher Plummer, who all say things to make him feel better. He also pursues an old flame played by Toni Collette. Somewhere in the midst of this there are revelations about life, happiness and how to live happily. All in all, the film does not look especially riveting, even a little milquetoast. That said, Pegg appears to be sincerely committed and banter between him and Pike should be a highlight, as the two have already crossed paths in last year’s spectacular “The World’s End.”
