The big boards that all studios have in their conference room which show release dates for the next several years of titles must have exploded this week thanks to the deluge of changes the industry produced. Everything from the second “Jungle Book” movie in production, to martians to a “Transporter” recharge to some very peculiar children . So without further ado…
THE HUNTSMAN—UNIVERSAL—NOW 4/22/16
“Snow White And The Huntsman” prequel is all alone on 4/22.
THE MUMMY—UNIVERSAL—NOW 6/24/16 WAS 4/22/16
Not an update of the old Brendan Fraser vehicle, but a retelling of the original Boris Karloff, Carl Laemmle Jr produced “Mummy’ has the week to itself on 6/24
ROSEWATER—OPEN ROAD—NOW 11/7/14
Jon Stewart’s directorial debut has company on November 7th with Tommy Lee Jones’ “The Homesman”, “The Theory of Everything” and Daniel Radcliffe’s “Horns” all going limited
THE DISAPPEARANCE OF ELEANOR RIGBY—WEINSTEIN–NOW 9/12/14 WAS 9/26/14
Possible Jessica Chastain Oscar nod drama avoids 9/26 logjam and moves onto a somewhat less frenetic 9/12 with the Tom Hardy starrer “The Drop” and “Before I Go To Sleep” with Colin Firth and Nicole Kidman.

JAMES WAN’S DEMONIC—WEINSTEIN—NOW 12/12/14
Legendary horror director James Wan (“Saw”) gives us a few scares pre-Christmas. Fox’s Biblical epic “Exodus” and a limited release of “Inherent Vice” are its only competition on that date
ONE CHANCE—WEINSTEIN—NOW 10/10/14 WAS 8/29/14
This is the third time this movie has changed release dates. Perhaps third time’s the charm. What is noteworthy about this story of Britain’s Got Talent winner Paul Potts is that the film will be available 10 days prior to release for Yahoo Screen customers.
CLIFFORD THE BIG RED DOG—UNIVERSAL—NOW 4/8/16
2004’s “Clifford” movie grossed $3 million. Universal is hoping for bigger things this time around and currently has the April 8th weekend to itself.
THE TRANSPORTER LEGACY—EUROPA CORP/RELATIVITY—NOW 3/6/15
This film will be released under the EuropaCorp banner under their new agreement with Relativity. This is a complete recharge of the franchise as Jason Statham has departed but Luc Besson is around to executive produce. The film will have to compete with Sony’s Neil Blomkamp actioner “Chappie”, “The Coup” with Owen Wilson and Pierce Brosnan and the untitled Vince Vaughn movie over at Fox.
THE JUNGLE BOOK: ORIGINS—WARNER BROTHERS—NOW 10/21/16
Warners hopes that one year between “Jungle Book” movies (BV has a version directed by Jon Favreau coming out in October of 2015) will be enough time. Its only competition at the moment on October 21st is a Blumhouse horror title
PAPER TOWNS—FOX—IN 7/31/15
I will admit to knowing very little about this film. It faces Sacha Baron Cohen’s spy comedy “Grimsby” from Sony.
MISS PEREGRINE’S HOME FOR PECULIAR CHILDREN—FOX—IN 3/4/16 OUT 7/31/15
I guess I’ll have to wait another 8 months for the film adaptation of the best book I read last year. The wickedly creepy fantasy moves out of 2015 and onto a March 4th 2016 date that currently faces a challenge solely from an untitled Disney animated offering.
THE MARTIAN—FOX—IN 11/25/15 OUT 3/4/16
Was hoping this was based on the 1970’s TV show “My Favorite Martian” but no such luck. Director Ridley Scott’s sci-fi actioner with Matt Damon (yeah this probably does work better than “My Favorite Martian”) moves onto the Thanksgiving 2015 date against BV’s “Good Dinosaur” and WB’s “Midnight Special”, also a sci-fi actioner, with Kirsten Dunst and Joel Edgerton. Let’s see if that film moves now.
THE LONGEST RIDE—FOX—IN 4/10/15 WAS 4/3/15
The latest Nicholas Sparks novel adaptation moves onto April 10th, all by its lonesome.
