We haven’t seen much from Tim Burton since 2012, when he released both “Dark Shadows” and the stop-motion “Frankenweenie.” His next film is “Big Eyes,” due in theaters on Christmas Day, and two newly released images show Amy Adams and Christoph Waltz in action as the two leads.
Burton’s “Big Eyes” is a biopic of artist Margaret Keane, who won fame in the 1950s for her paintings of children with–you guessed it!–big eyes. Adams plays the painter, while Waltz portrays her husband Walter, who began to claim credit for the paintings Margaret created. The two divorced and battled their way through the court system, where Margaret challenged Walter to a ‘paint-off’ in federal court (seriously) to prove her authorship. Walter didn’t take her up on the challenge.
“Margaret really believed that as a woman, people would not buy her art,” Adams told USA Today, which released the two new “[Walter] convinced her the life they were able to lead was because the artist was a man, who could sell more art at a higher price than a woman.”
You can see the second production still from “Big Eyes” below. Could this mean that a trailer will be making its way to us soon? The Weinsteins have planned a Christmas Day release for the flick, which means they’re positioning it for some awards recognition–and will likely back it up with the kind of publicity operation to make that happen.
