Mike Huckabee and ‘UnFair: Exposing the IRS’ Are Coming to a Theater Near You

Mike Huckabee and 'UnFair: Exposing the IRS' Are Coming to a Theater Near You

The right-wing documentary “UnFair: Exposing the IRS,” will receive an extremely limited theatrical release this October. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film is slated to be released in 674 theaters across the country on October 14 for one night only. The screening will be followed by a conversation with Mike Huckabee, who appears extensively in the film.

Executive produced by John Sullivan, who co-directed “2016: Obama’s America” with conservative commentator Dinesh D’Souza, “UnFair: Exposing the IRS” focuses on members of the Tea Party who claim to have been abused by the IRS. Besides Huckabee, conservative pundit Glenn Beck, Senator Ted Cruz of Texas and Representative Michele Bachmann of Minnesota’s 6th congressional district, also make appearances in the film.

The special release for “UnFair: Exposing the IRS” is being shepherded by Fathom Events, a promotions company that specializes in bringing live performances and events, most notably those of the New York Metropolitan Opera, to movie theater audiences.

Fathom EVP Shelly Maxwell described the release to THR as a “national town hall event.”

“2014 marks the 100th anniversary of U.S. citizens paying income tax,” she told THR, “and movie theaters are the perfect place for this national town hall event.”

Either the definition of a town hall changed in the past 24 hours or Maxwell doesn’t actually know what the term actually means because if Fathom is, as the THR article explicitly suggests, “banking on conservative fan base to turn out” for the release of the film, then it will be more like a conservative rally than a town hall. The term town hall connotes a group of individuals with mixed opinions gathering in one place for a discussion.

Common sense, right? Let’s hope so.
