It’s being reported that Sam Smith is in talks with the producers of the 24th James Bond film — which remains untitled going into its November 2015 release — to record its theme.
The news comes after rumors that Adele rejected an initial offer to record the title track once again, following her Oscar-winning theme for “Skyfall.” Notably that would have made her only the second person to record more than one “Bond” song — the other of course being Shirley Bassey. Though there will be a different landmark set if Sam Smith ends up taking Adele’s place: He’ll be the first openly queer person to sing a Bond theme song, not to mention the first British male to do so since Tom Jones and “Thunderball.”
The new Bond film will see the return of director Sam Mendes and star Daniel Craig, with Ralph Fiennes, Ben Whishaw, Naomie Harris and Rory Kinnear rounding out the at the announced cast.
