WATCH: Provocative 'Men, Women & Children' Trailer From Jason Reitman

Yesterday it was announced that Jason Reitman’s new film “Men, Women and Children” will have an October 3 limited release. Today, this tale of modern American sexual frustration gets its first teaser trailer ahead of its Toronto premiere in September. It is artful, and provocative, and lonely-looking.

MEN, WOMEN & CHILDREN follows the story of a group of high school teenagers and their parents as they attempt to navigate the many ways the internet has changed their relationships, their communication, their self-image, and their love lives. The film attempts to stare down social issues such as video game culture, anorexia, infidelity, fame hunting, and the proliferation of illicit material on the internet. As each character and each relationship is tested, we are shown the variety of roads people choose – some tragic, some hopeful – as it becomes clear that no one is immune to this enormous social change that has come through our phones, our tablets, and our computers.

Starring Ansel Elgort, Adam Sandler, Judy Greer, Jennifer Garner, Emma Thompson, Dean Norris, Dennis Haysbert, Rosemarie DeWitt and JK Simmons, “Men, Women & Children” sounds, on paper at least, more along the lines of Reitman’s “Young Adult” (2011). Reitman has drifted out of the awards conversation since his Best Picture nominee “Up in the Air” back in 2009. He’s focusing, instead, on making the films he wants to make.
