Watch: Sundance Doc 'The Overnighters' Trailer Examines How Unemployment Unravels US Communities

Drafthouse Films has released a trailer for “The Overnighters,” a powerful sociopolitical documentary that studies how the small community of Williston, North Dakota has been impacted by recent influx of unemployed men into the state, following the discovery of oil in the Bakkan shale.

“The Overnighters” made its debut at Sundance earlier this year to rave reviews and, was subsequently awarded the U.S. Documentary Special Jury Award for Intuitive Filmmaking.

In the trailer, which you can watch below, the Williston community is a war zone, constantly threatening to unravel at any given moment. The film specifically focuses on Pastor Jay Reinke’s attempt to provide support to the unemployed and homeless men who came to Williston in an attempt to turn their lives around.

“The Overnighters” is slated to open in New York on October 10 and Los Angeles on October 31.
