Bryan Singer Confirmed To Direct ‘X-Men: Apocalypse,’ Young Cyclops, Storm, Jean And More Will Join 'First Class' Mutants

Are you still puzzling out what the retconning of the franchise timelines in “X-Men: Days Of Future Past” means for the future of the series? Well, Simon Kinberg is here to clearly and confusingly explain. “We certainly re-write some of the history of [‘X-Men: The Last Stand‘] and [‘X-Men: Origins — Wolverine‘],” Kinberg told Yahoo! Movies. “One of the things we talk about in ‘Days of Future Past’ is that you can change the future, it’s like a stream that moves in one direction—you can create a new ripple in it, but you certainly don’t change the current. What we did in ‘Days of Future Past’ changed some things, but like you see of the film, they end up back in the mansion in the future, so most of the current continued in the same direction, so most of the things you see in [the earlier films] still happened but with slight adjustments.” WHAT? Anyway, let’s move on….

It will be Bryan Singer‘s job to sort it all out, as the filmmaker is confirmed to direct “X-Men: Apocalypse.” As you know, the director had to drop out of promotional duties for ‘DOFP’ when allegations of sexual assault were raised against him. He had been lined up to helm ‘Apocalypse’ a while ago, but both Singer and news of his involvement in the franchise went quiet when the accusations hit the press. But the lawsuit has since been dropped, and there’s more news to come about ‘Apocalypse.’

According to Deadline, joining the ‘First Class’ team of Charles (James McAvoy), Erik/Magneto (Michael Fassbender), Raven/Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence), Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) and Hank/Beast (Nicholas Hoult), will be young Cyclops, Storm, Jean Grey and more. So expect those to be some major roles to be cast before long, and it looks like it’ll be another mega ensemble for the next mutant blockbuster.

Production begins next spring, and “X-Men: Apocalypse” will land in theaters on May 27, 2016. Until then, here’s a deleted scene from ‘DOFP’ of Wolverine and Storm kissing. AWWW.
