Casting: Vince Vaughn To Star In Michael Dowse's 'The Politician,' Melanie Laurent Joins Brad Pitt's 'By The Sea' & More

While Vince Vaughn is expected to take a role in “True Detective,” the actor knows what side his bread is buttered on, and it’s the comedic side. The actor will star in the Seth Rogen-produced, Michael Dowse (“Goon,” “What If“)-directed “The Politician.” The Black List script by Matthew Bass and Theodore Bressman follows “a politician in Washington D.C. who is caught in a scandal with some hookers. The man and his underachieving accomplice go on the run from the FBI, U.S. Marshals and a gang of drug dealers.” Wacky. This one will probably have to wait until Vaughn’s HBO duties are finished before it rolls. [THR]

Melanie Laurent has joined “By The Sea,” which marks the onscreen reunion of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. The latter will direct and co-star in the movie, and the specific details are being kept tightly under wraps. [Tout Le Cine]

Before that movie shoots, Shipka will co-star with Timothée Chalamet, Grant Bowler and Elizabeth Reaser in “One & Two.” Andrew Droz Palermo (“Rich Hill“) will helm this one about “a family of four who live peacefully in purposeful isolation in a mysterious farmhouse, where siblings Zac and Eva begin to explore unusual abilities and dark family secrets when their mother falls ill.” Production is set to begin soon. Lucas Till is joining Kate Beckinsale in D.J. Caruso‘s “The Disappointments Room.” Wentworth Miller (“Stoker“) penned this one about “a mother (Beckinsale) who moves her family to a beautiful house in the country. The discovery of a secret room in the attic leads to the woman unlocking the home’s bloody secret past and how it ties frighteningly to her own.” Production starts next week. [THR]

Fifty Shades Of Grey” hunk Jamie Dornan will try to keep his shirt on in Alexandre Aja‘s psychological thriller “The 9th Life of Louis Drax.” Max Minghella wrote the script that “begins on Louis Drax’s ninth birthday, when he suffers a near-fatal fall. In order to reveal the strange circumstances surrounding the young boy’s accident, Dr. Allan Pascal (Dornan) is drawn into a thrilling mystery, testing the boundaries of fantasy and reality.” Lensing starts in October. Oprah Winfrey has joined the now-confirmed Mike Epps in Lee Daniels‘ untitled Richard Pryor biopic. She’ll play the legendary comedian’s grandmother. [via Flicks And Bits]

Jena Malone, Douglas Smith and Ted Levine are headed to the “Bottom Of The World.” They’ll star in the horror film directed by Richard Sears about “Scarlett and Alex, a young couple who stop at a desert motel on their way to start a new life in L.A. When she vanishes, Alex desperately tries to find her but is plunged into a nightmarish world where he finally realizes that he must be in a dream — but he is not the dreamer.” Cameras are rolling now. David Simon‘s miniseries gets a bit bigger with LaTanya Richardson Jackson, Natalie Paul, Clarke Peters and Daniel Stern joining Oscar Isaac, Catherine Keener, Winona Ryder, Jon Bernthal and Alfred Molina in “Show Me A Hero.” The show will chronicle the efforts of “the young mayor of a midsize American city who is faced with a federal court order that says he must build a small number of low-income housing units in the white neighborhoods of his town.” [THR]
